dc.description.abstract"Jordan Peterson, starting in 2024, produced a docuseries called The Gospels based on the four gospels. As a public intellectual whose influence reaches millions, Peterson’s psychological and philosophical engagement with Scripture shapes how many viewers understand Christ, salvation, and the Christian life. While he approaches the biblical text with seriousness and often articulates moral insights, his method ultimately reframes the gospel into what this paper calls the “gospel of being.” This interpretive pattern elevates Jesus primarily as an archetypal human, moral exemplar, and embodiment of order, rather than as the divine Savior who accomplishes redemption for sinners. Evaluated through Confessional Lutheran hermeneutics, this study demonstrates how Peterson’s hermeneutic—rooted in psychology, philosophy, and broad allegorization—redefines key Christian doctrines. His Christology presents Jesus as the supreme pattern of human potential rather than the God-man who atones for sin. His soteriology shifts salvation from a focus on God’s gracious act in Christ to a human self-orientation toward the Logos through moral living. His understanding of sanctification merges civic righteousness with spiritual transformation, blurring the necessary distinction between justification and good works. Despite these concerns, Peterson’s cultural impact makes engagement with his work essential for pastors and laypeople alike. This thesis, therefore, not only critiques Peterson’s theological framework but also equips Christians to respond with clarity, charity, and biblical fidelity. "en_US
