We Need to Talk: The Need for Christian Parents to Actively Educate Their Children About Sex
Abstract
The main purposes of this project are to illuminate the shortcoming by many Christian parents to talk with their children about sex and encourage parents to embrace their important role to do so. Parents educating their child about sex is not an optional task, yet doing so is viewed as uncomfortable, at best. Christian parents are timid in broaching this topic with their children. The avoidance of having even one conversation, let alone ongoing conversations about sex with their growing children, can cause problems for years, even decades, to come. This thesis begins by exploring the prevalence of this avoidance among Christian parents. How bad is the problem? Then, through interviews with young men who have lived long enough to realize the ill effects, it illuminates the potential carnage of avoiding conversations about sex. Next, I briefly comment on the next generation of parents to shed light on if there is progress in solving this problem. Finally, solutions will be offered to parents on how to begin this important conversation. This will be accomplished by exploring what the Bible has to say about the role that parents have in their child’s life, which includes educating them about sex.
