EF 3253 Siegbert Becker_ a true lutheran
Abstract
"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of God shall stand forever." - Isaiah 40:6b,8
Respected professor, inspirational preacher, stimulating author, staunch confessor, beloved husband and father. All of these titles could accurately be used to describe Siegbert W. Becker. In light of Isaiah's words, however, none of them measure up as a fitting epitaph for this biography. Those words from Isaiah served as the basis for the funeral sermon of Dr. Becker, and they suggest a different title. While Siegbert Becker was many things, he was first and foremost a believer. For him faith in Jesus his Savior, as revealed on the pages of the Bible, was chief in importance. His life revolved around Christ. He put his many gifts to use in the service of his Lord. Understanding that on his own he was a wretched sinner, he put his trust in the cross. his life is a story of God's Word-law and gospel-at work. That Word shaped him into a true Lutheran.
