Helping the Homeless: Overcoming Challenges of a Difficult Ministry
Abstract
Homelessness is a problem that has been rapidly growing throughout the country and it is
common for Christians to want to help. However, it is difficult to know how to help. This thesis
will identify two challenges that churches in Milwaukee face when carrying out this ministry and
provide possible solutions. This will be accomplished in three ways. First, it is important to see
this as something God desires for his people to do; therefore, a Scriptural overview will establish
the truth that God does call his people to care for this hurting population. Second, a survey of
churches from the Milwaukee area will highlight common challenges that churches face when
seeking to reach out to the homeless. Finally, I will suggest solutions to the challenges identified
by congregations.
