The Old Lie of the New Age

Abstract

The New Age Movement (NAM) became widespread following the Harmonic Convergence in 1987. As a celebration of peace and unity, people across America hugged, held hands, and chanted mantras. However, NAM was never an institution; it describes the unity of people with the belief of individual enlightenment for a global transformation of harmony. New Agers do not deny God; they want to become God. This ambition is nothing new, dating back to the serpent’s lie in the Garden of Eden, exhibited itself through eastern philosophies, and introduced within western society as an alternative spirituality. The devil has deceived countless people by rejecting objective morality and truth, the promise of divinity within oneself, and the ability to fulfill work righteousness. Nowadays, the message of value from within is prevalent in every aspect of society. Christians are to discern when the devil’s lies appear in everyday life. Additionally, the job of Christians is to continue proclaiming the saving message of a personal God who loves the sinner, the one who provided the path of salvation through faith alone.
