An Overview of Hermeneutics in the 21st Century
Abstract
President Wendland walks through the issues related to interpretation of Scripture with the post-modern worldview so prevalent in this 21st century. He strongly makes that case that a “Lutheran” hermeneutic might be a misnomer, in that the principles employed by Lutherans did not originate with Lutherans. He makes sure to emphasize that while a completely unbiased hermeneutic (if such a thing could exist) would be the ideal, nevertheless he indicates that any hermeneutic principles we do put into use MUST come from Scripture and not from ourselves.
