    Abstract
Paul was a very good historian. In his letter to the Romans he uses examples from Israel’s history in order to add more evidence for God’s purpose in election. The examples of Jacob and Esau, Moses with the children of Israel in the desert, and Pharaoh, demonstrate that God’s purpose in election is not based in any works but in grace alone.
