In this article Sungenis gives a Catholic response to the infamous Joint Declaration on Justification between the Roman Catholic Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. While this declaration appear to be an agreement on the outside, Sungenis bases his analysis of the Joint Declaration on the historic teaching of the Catholic Church, and he uses it to outline some of the key differences between the two sides. Sungenis concludes the article by discussing why the Catholic Church might have come to this agreement despite the numerous differences that still remain between the two sidesen_US
