Love Your Neighbor As Yourself

Abstract

Roland Cap Ehlke examines society’s (and Christianity’s) emphasis on self-esteem and notes the many pitfalls of the movement. He looks at extreme examples (e.g. Robert Schuller’s work) as well as more subtle advances (e.g. James Dobson and Billy Graham). He also includes a section on the often quoted Bible passage, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” He concludes with the suggestion that true self-esteem can only be built on the biblical truths of sin and grace and law and gospel.
