    Abstract
The pastor, whether he wants to admit it or not, is a professional. In 2 Timothy 2, Pastor Paul offers young Timothy some practical advice about professionalism in ministry. Following the outline of Chapter 2, Degner offers a fine exegesis. According to these verses the pastor should be professional in the sense that he is dedicated to his work, handles himself well when under pressure, doesn’t compromise the truth, and keeps his eye on the goal. Degner methodically breaks the verses down to show that God expects the pastor to be professional in his work.
