    Abstract
At a crucial point in Israel’s history, Samuel served not only as Israel’s final judge, but also fulfilled the duties of prophet and priest. He truly was a great leader of the Israelite people. Pastors also are placed into a position of leadership over their congregations and can learn from Samuel the importance of preaching proper law and gospel, caring for the spiritual wellbeing of their flocks, praying earnestly to the Lord, and keeping the promises of God close at heart.
